Steamboat Springs, Colorado – The Steamboat Springs community is mourning the loss of Andy Michnay, a dedicated freeskiing coach and director at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC), who tragically passed away on January 11, 2025.
Andy’s unexpected death has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him. His lifelong passion for skiing and his commitment to developing young athletes have made an indelible mark on the Steamboat Springs community.
Born and raised in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Andy’s love for skiing started at a young age. Over the years, he honed his skills and became an influential figure in the world of freeskiing. In 2006, Andy joined the Steamboat Park Crew, where he combined his love for the sport with his creative talents, producing skiing videos that were widely appreciated on platforms like Copper Mountain and Steamboat’s official channels.
As a coach at SSWSC, Andy helped shape the careers and lives of countless young athletes. He was known for his kind-hearted nature, generosity, and unwavering support of his students and colleagues. His friend Chris Franges shared a heartfelt tribute, saying, “You were loved, you are loved, and you will be missed by many. RIP Andy Michnay.”
Andy’s influence was far-reaching, both on and off the slopes, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of skiers.
