Urbana, Illinois – Chloe Polzin, a 21-year-old from Urbana, was tragically killed in a fatal hit-and-run accident on University Avenue at Coler Avenue on Wednesday, January 21, 2025.
Polzin was one of two passengers in a Honda Civic struck by a Mitsubishi Outlander. The collision resulted in the death of Polzin and her fellow passenger, 20-year-old Katherine J. Abraham. Three other individuals in the car were injured.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, 27-year-old Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez, fled the scene, sparking an investigation by local law enforcement. Saenz-Suarez was later apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in Milford, Texas, as he attempted to travel to Matamoros, Mexico. He now faces charges of reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal injury crash.
The Urbana Police Department has expressed gratitude for the quick response from law enforcement, with Chief Larry D. Boone stating, “We thank the efforts of the Urbana Police Department and the US Marshals Service for their work in capturing Saenz-Suarez.”
