Henrico County, Virginia – The Henrico County community is grieving the loss of Officer Evan D. O’Dell, a dedicated law enforcement officer and beloved School Resource Officer, who passed away on January 15, 2025, following a courageous fight against an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Evan D. O’Dell’s death marks the end of a remarkable career that spanned over a decade. Joining the Henrico County Police Department in May 2011, he quickly gained a reputation for his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of his community.

In 2016, Evan became a School Resource Officer at Freeman High School, where he formed strong, supportive relationships with students and faculty alike. His kind and approachable demeanor made him more than just a law enforcement figure—he was a mentor, confidant, and friend to many.

Known for his passion for service, Evan’s impact extended far beyond his role as a police officer. He was deeply involved in community events and served as a role model for aspiring officers.
