Wink, Texas – The Winkler County community is reeling from the tragic death of Jake Shuler, a 17-year-old student-athlete at Wink High School, who passed away on Friday, January 16, 2025, following a car accident that occurred on Wednesday night.
The accident took place around 8:55 p.m. on January 14, 2025, in the 600 block of North Pyote Street. Emergency responders from the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office and Winkler County EMS arrived at the scene and immediately performed life-saving measures. Jake was rushed to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, where he fought for his life but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Jake’s family shared an emotional statement on social media, revealing that he had selflessly chosen to be an organ donor. “Without hesitation, our sweet angel boy checked that box,” the family said. “We take great comfort in knowing that he is with his Papa Jake and they are dancing with Jesus.”
