Raleigh, North Carolina – John Rowe, a 73-year-old resident of Raleigh, tragically passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, following an officer-involved shooting at his home.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, Rowe was critically injured after an exchange of gunfire between police officers and the suspect, Antonio Rodrigues, 70.
Authorities revealed that Rodrigues had opened fire on the responding officers, leading to a confrontation that resulted in both Rodrigues’ death and Rowe’s injuries.
The incident occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Democracy Street, located near Chapanoke Road and South Wilmington Street.
Rowe was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The police have not yet released the name of the officer critically injured during the exchange, honoring the family’s request for privacy.
Social media tributes poured in, with many expressing their condolences to Rowe’s family. One friend wrote, "Rest in peace, John. You were a kind soul."
The family has yet to announce funeral arrangements, but they are expected to release details in the coming days.
