Radcliffe, Iowa – Kathaleen Houck, a 71-year-old woman from Radcliffe, tragically passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, following a deadly car-train collision.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 10:53 a.m. on 290th Street, located between E Avenue and F Avenue, roughly three miles southeast of Radcliffe.
Houck was driving a Toyota Prius eastbound on 290th Street when she failed to yield at the railroad crossing, resulting in a collision with a northbound train.
The train struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
Despite being airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Houck succumbed to her injuries.
The crash occurred at a railroad crossing that has flashing lights but lacks cross-arms, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The agency continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
