Burlington, Vermont – Mark Omand, 18, of Essex Junction, Vermont, tragically lost his life on January 15, 2025, following a high-speed crash on Vermont Route 127, commonly known as the Beltline.
At around 5:30 p.m., Burlington Police responded to the scene of a catastrophic collision near the North Avenue interchange. Omand, driving an Audi, was reportedly speeding when his vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with a Jeep driven by 45-year-old Derek Lorrain of Burlington.
Despite the rapid response from emergency services, Omand was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. Lorrain, who sustained serious injuries, was extricated from his vehicle by the Burlington Fire Department and rushed to the hospital. His condition has not been disclosed.
