San Francisco, California – The global financial community is mourning the unexpected passing of Osei Van Horne, a distinguished managing partner at J.P. Morgan, who died on January 13, 2025, following heart surgery.
Mr. Van Horne, a visionary leader in private equity and venture capital, was highly regarded for his work in driving sustainable capital initiatives and advancing social equity. As Co-Global Head of J.P. Morgan’s Sustainable Capital division, he was instrumental in the success of Project Black, a private equity fund designed to support companies led by diverse teams.
In addition to his role at J.P. Morgan, Mr. Van Horne had an illustrious career at Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs. He was named one of the "50 Most Influential Venture Capital Investors" by GCV from 2019 to 2021 and featured in PitchBook’s list of notable African Americans in technology.
Mr. Van Horne was a passionate advocate for education and mentorship, teaching at Columbia University and serving on the board of the Women’s Venture Fund. Known for his warmth and generosity, he was deeply loved by his family and community.
He is survived by his wife, Gabryel, and their two daughters, Kennedy and Briar. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him and those who benefited from his work.
