Augusta County, Virginia – Vickie Smith, a 68-year-old woman, tragically lost her life in a fire that broke out on January 9, 2025, in Augusta County, Virginia.
The fire occurred shortly before midnight at a building located on 1477 Guthrie Road, associated with Mountain Creek Stables.
Virginia State Police confirmed her identity on Thursday, January 16, after the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas made the official identification.
While two individuals managed to escape the blaze, Vickie Smith was found deceased inside the building.
Authorities have stated that the fire is not considered suspicious, though the cause remains under investigation.
The Stuart’s Draft Volunteer Fire Department has been praised for their significant role in assisting with the investigation.
This tragic incident marks the second fatal fire in the region within a month, following the death of 47-year-old Abraham Hernandez Sanchez in Waynesboro in December 2024.
