Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte community is mourning the loss of Zailan K. Peeler, a former assistant basketball coach and proud graduate of Myers Park High School, who tragically passed away in a car accident on January 24, 2025.
Peeler, who was just 25 years old, had a lasting impact on both the athletic and educational communities he served. Known for his passion for basketball and his dedication to mentoring young athletes, Zailan’s death has left an overwhelming void in the lives of those who knew him.
Born on May 13, 1999, Peeler was a graduate of Myers Park High School, Class of 2017. He later returned to his alma mater as an assistant basketball coach, where he was highly regarded not only for his skills on the court but for his caring nature and commitment to guiding young athletes.
“Zailan had a quiet demeanor, but his actions spoke volumes,” shared a close friend. “When he smiled, it lit up the room. He was someone you could always count on, a true leader.”
