Aidan Fontana Bonura, Burlington, ON — The community is mourning the loss of Aidan Fontana Bonura, who passed away on July 24 at the tender age of 17. Aidan was a beloved son, brother, and former pickleball fan, known for his spirited enthusiasm and kind nature.
Aidan’s father, Peter, and his brother, Christian, are deeply affected by this sudden and tragic loss. Peter has been seen continuing to play at Tansley, finding solace in the pickleball community during this difficult time.
To honor Aidan’s memory, Kayla Rice has organized a fundraiser to gather contributions for a special tribute. The initial goal of raising funds to purchase new pickleball paddles engraved with Aidan’s name has been achieved thanks to the generous donation of two Selkirk paddles by Paul Lejkowski. The paddles will feature edge guards labeled "In memory of Aidan."
The fundraiser, which aims to collect $500, has already raised $150 from three donations, including contributions from Anonymous ($50), Andrew Hart ($40), and Gi DiFronzo ($60). The pickleball community is now focusing on additional ways to honor Aidan, such as installing a plaque on one of the court benches at Tansley Park or supporting the family’s chosen charity, Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Aidan attended Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, and his mother is a teacher within the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB). Both communities, along with the Tansley Pickleball community, have rallied around Peter and Christian, offering their support and condolences.
Coach Paul has suggested organizing an annual tournament in Aidan’s memory, providing the community with an event to remember and celebrate his life.
The outpouring of support from friends, family, and the community highlights the impact Aidan had on those around him. His memory will live on through the love and kindness shared by all who knew him.
