Alex Jackson Cochran Jr., lovingly known as Jackie, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at his home in Summersville, WV, surrounded by his cherished family. Born in Beckley, WV, on April 9, 1958, Jackie was a dedicated family man, a committed Christian, and a man of the coal industry who lived life to the fullest. He was 66 years old.
Jackie spent much of his life working in his father’s trucking company, Jack’s Trucking, before becoming a mechanical foreman at a strip mine. He was passionate about his work and took great pride in his role as an EMT and reclamation specialist. His love for music and the church was well known, as he often sang and played his guitar at various congregations.
Above all, Jackie’s greatest joy was his wife of 39 years, Linda Cochran. Together, they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often fishing, boating, kayaking, traveling, or spending time in their rocking chairs on the porch, drinking coffee and enjoying each other’s company. Jackie also delighted in being "Papaw" to his five grandchildren—Sophie, Eliza, Jasper, Alex Jackson IV (Jax), and Abigail.
His family, including his daughter Lindsey (Justin) Skidmore and son Alex (Rachelle) Cochran III, alongside his mother, Norma Lilly Cochran, and siblings, will hold on to the many precious memories they shared with him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Summersville, WV. The service will conclude with prayer and song, honoring Jackie’s life and faith. Following the visitation, family and friends are invited to gather at Brown Oaks for food, fellowship, and an ice cream social in honor of Jackie’s favorite treat.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by Jackie’s daughter, Lindsey Skidmore, to place a park bench where his family and friends can gather to remember and celebrate his life. Donations can be made through the GoFundMe page or by visiting any United Bank location.
