Alice Nielsen passed away on October 30th at her home following a challenging battle with cancer. The family shared that she enjoyed a quiet evening watching the World Series baseball game before she passed, leaving her loved ones in shock as she had remained mentally sharp until the end. Known for her love of family, flowers, baseball, and her devotion to teaching, Alice’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of her son Mike, her family, and her many friends and colleagues.
Alice’s son, Mike, announced that a Celebration of Life service would be held at the Henry W. Anderson Home in Apple Valley, MN, with final arrangements expected to take place in early to mid-December. A GoFundMe page has been created to assist with service expenses, and so far, the community has shown its support, raising $125 out of a $6,000 goal.
Many friends and former colleagues have shared heartfelt memories of Alice on social media:
- Jaime Kleeberger wrote, “OMG, no! Mike (& Family), I am so sorry! She was an amazing woman! Please keep me posted on arrangements.”
- Meredith Lejchar Buescher shared, “She was the first teacher I worked with when I became a para and she taught me a lot. I am so sorry for your loss.”
- Kathy Emerson Castle expressed, “We are so very sorry to hear this. She was such a nice lady! May she RIP. Prayers & hugs to all family & friends.”
- Sandy Bergsten recalled, “Alice was a good friend to me when I taught my students near her classroom. There were times when she’d rush over to my teaching area & say, ‘You’re too loud, Sandy,’ with a grin on her face.”
Alice’s memory will live on through the lives she touched, both in the classroom and beyond. The outpouring of love and support speaks volumes about her lasting impact. Our prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
