Alvaro Burgos-Guitierrez—Alvaro Burgos-Guitierrez passed away tragically in Chesne, South Carolina, during the devastating Hurricane Helena. Alvaro was 41 years old and had been living in the U.S. since July 2023 to provide for his family back home in Managua, Nicaragua.
Alvaro worked tirelessly at a local restaurant and shared a three-bedroom camper with two of his coworkers. On September 27th, after returning from his shift, Alvaro, who often drove his roommates to and from work, retired to bed amidst the storm. Tragically, a tree fell on the camper, taking Alvaro’s life while he was asleep in his room.
Alvaro leaves behind his loving wife, Ilian, and their 7-year-old daughter, Maria. His 88-year-old mother, Amanda, is mourning the loss of her only child. The family now seeks to return Alvaro’s ashes to Nicaragua, where he can rest alongside his father.
Indiana Chavez, Alvaro’s cousin, has organized a fundraiser to cover the cremation costs and transportation of his ashes to his homeland. The funds will also help bring Alvaro’s wife to the U.S. to accompany him on his final journey back to Managua.
Alvaro was known for his generosity, hard work, and devotion to his family. His passing has deeply affected those who knew him, and the community has already begun contributing to the fundraiser to support his final journey home.
We extend our deepest condolences to Alvaro’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time.
