Amber Jadis, PEI – The Island Mourns a Remarkable STEAM Advocate

Amber Jadis, PEI—Amber Jadis, a dedicated advocate for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education, passed away on October 10, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was widely known for her passionate work introducing STEAM programs to schools across Prince Edward Island, impacting the lives of countless children and inspiring them to pursue careers in these vital fields.

Amber’s contributions to her community went far beyond her role as an electrical engineer. She was a visionary who spearheaded the establishment of the STEAM PEI discovery centre and makerspace, a dream she realized in 2022. Her tireless work, often done while navigating her own health challenges, left an indelible mark on the Island’s youth and the future of education.

In a heartfelt post, Danielle White shared, "For those who haven’t heard the news, Amber Jadis passed away yesterday. This woman has touched the lives of literally thousands of Island kids." Kate Larson echoed the sentiment, stating, "Lochlan and Watson have both attended every STEAM PEI program we could get our hands on. She was an incredible person."

Amber was not only a leader in education but also a devoted mother and wife. She celebrated many personal milestones this year, including her daughter Ellen’s grade 8 graduation and her son Clark’s MVP award in baseball. Despite her illness, Amber remained active in her community and continued to push for the betterment of STEAM education.

A GoFundMe campaign, organized by her husband Jacob’s cousin Melissa Peter-Paul, has been set up to support Jacob and their children, Ellen and Clark. The family, who has given so much to the Island, is now in need of help during this difficult time. Melissa wrote, "Amber’s main request was to make sure her children were supported," and the community has already begun to rally around them, with early donations coming from individuals like Katelyn Barrett and Danielle White.

In a poignant twist, Amber, who had always longed to witness the aurora borealis, finally got her wish. On the night of her passing, the skies above PEI were illuminated with a dazzling display of the northern lights—a fitting tribute to a woman whose light shone brightly in life and continues to shine in the hearts of those she touched.
