Amy Samson, Eugene, OR— Amy Samson passed away tragically on her way to work at North Eugene High School on October 15th. Known as a dedicated art educator and award-winning teacher, her passing has left the community and countless former students in deep mourning. Amy was a mother, sister, and friend, whose presence profoundly touched many lives.
Sam Wartenbee shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, reflecting on Amy’s encouragement during his youth: “RIP to one of the most important people in my young life and education, Amy Samson. I just heard the news from a friend, whose daughter attends her class at my old school. Amy encouraged me as a young writer with a dark sense of humor, and we kept in touch (on and off) ever since.”
Other friends and community members echoed similar sentiments. Maria Cook simply expressed, “Sad!! She was great!” while Christina Avery and Spencer Straub offered their condolences, with Spencer writing, “So sorry for your loss, Sam!”
Amy’s impact extended far beyond the classroom. Her friend Tabatha Andrews organized a fundraiser to support Amy’s children, Lyra and Auden, who are currently in college. The goal is to bring them home to be surrounded by loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. The community has already begun showing support with donations pouring in. Jonna Leighton contributed $25, Oona Eddleman gave $10, and an anonymous donor added $20 to the growing fund.
Tabatha’s fundraiser post spoke volumes about Amy’s importance: “Amy was so much to so many. She was my friend and a dear friend to countless more. She was an amazing teacher, the rock of her family—a loving sister and daughter, and above all, a fiercely loving mother to Lyra and Auden. Your donations are most appreciated and will ease the burden on the family as they cope with this horrific tragedy.”
We extend our deepest condolences to Amy Samson’s family, friends, and students. Her impact on the community will not be forgotten, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lyra, Auden, and the entire Samson family during this time of unimaginable loss.
