Andrea Fruzzetti, St. Paul, MN— Andrea Fruzzetti passed away suddenly, leaving a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many communities he was part of. Andrea, born in Keren, Eritrea in 1944, was known for his kindness, generosity, and his passionate commitment to his family and the communities he cherished.
Andrea’s journey began in Eritrea, where he lost his father at a young age. His mother, Lucia Tesba Gilay, moved him and his sister Lina to Khartoum, Sudan, where Andrea excelled in both academics and sports. His talent on the field led him to Ethiopia, where he played for the Greek Club Valesario in Addis Ababa. Later, he moved to the USA and attended Macalester College in Minnesota, where he earned a degree in Economics and History.
In 1977, Andrea married Sondra Decker, and together they raised two children, Adriano and Juliana. Though Andrea’s career took him to various parts of the world, including a brief stay in Baghdad, Iraq, he and his family eventually settled in St. Paul, where Andrea became an integral part of the local community.
Andrea’s passing has left a deep emotional impact on his wife of 47 years, Sondra, their children, and extended family. His legacy continues through the love and memories he shared with his family, as well as the work being done to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a fundraiser to build wells in communities in Eritrea and other African regions that were significant to Andrea throughout his life.
The funds raised will be used to continue Andrea’s legacy by providing water access to communities he held dear. The family and friends of Andrea Fruzzetti are finding solace in the generosity of donors and the impact Andrea’s life continues to have on others.
