Arnold Te Wano Patea, a cherished member of the Patea family, passed away early Thursday morning, October 24, in Sydney, Australia, leaving family and friends in deep sorrow. Known for his gentle spirit and strong family ties, Arnold was a beloved son to Tawhitopou and Geneva Patea (both deceased), father to Teneile and Mitchell, and grandfather to Paris, Kaise, and Herro. He was a loving brother to Bernadine, Lesley, Kevin, Trieste, Emily, Tania, and Shaun. Arnold’s life was shared with his late brother Jay and extended across generations as a treasured uncle and great uncle.
The community has shown immense support for Arnold’s family, with heartfelt messages flooding social media. Cynthia Kalopulu has organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to help ease the financial burdens of the unexpected funeral expenses, inviting anyone who can to contribute in memory of Arnold. For those unable to donate, Cynthia has asked for thoughts and prayers to uplift the family during this challenging time.
Expressions of love and grief have poured in on Facebook. Bianca Rupuha-Patea shared a heartfelt post, saying, “Ripi ripiia. Haehae. Tino pouri te ngakau o te whaanau Patea i tenei waa.” Others joined in with messages of love and condolences. Faith Nahu offered, “Condolences, love, and light whānau,” while Karen Mihiterina Taitumu sent “Big loves whanau.”
Arrangements are underway to bring Arnold home to Aotearoa New Zealand. A viewing will be held in Sydney on October 27, followed by a service on October 28 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Minchinbury, allowing friends and family to gather, mourn, and celebrate Arnold’s life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Patea family during this time of profound loss.
