Atinuke Abayomi Paul Tinu, Venus, TX— The community mourns the loss of Atinuke Abayomi Paul Tinu, who passed away on September 26, 2024. Known affectionately as Tinu, she was a cherished daughter, granddaughter, aunt, cousin, friend, writer, and activist who touched the lives of many with her unwavering advocacy for Black women and disabled individuals.
Tinu’s journey was marked by her dedication to the causes she believed in. Even after being hospitalized in 2022 with COVID pneumonia, which triggered the resurfacing of her cancer, she continued to champion the rights of those most vulnerable, including people affected by Long COVID and ME/CFS. Her message about the importance of public health echoed her powerful belief that compassion and care for others must always come first. "If you would wear a ribbon for a cancer patient, you should be wearing a mask for everyone," she once wrote, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in protecting each other.
A fundraiser has been organized by Brooke Crume and Abi O to support Tinu’s family during this difficult time. The community has already come together to contribute, with donations pouring in, including $200 from anonymous donors and $15 from Brittaney Carter, the first to donate. The funds will go toward covering funeral expenses, medical bills, housing, and the loss of income, all of which have left Tinu’s family in need of support.
Tinu’s legacy of kindness and activism has left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Her family, friends, and the wider community now seek to honor her memory by continuing the work she was passionate about and offering assistance in her name.
We extend our deepest condolences to Tinu’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this profound loss. May her soul rest in peace, and may her legacy inspire others to advocate for justice and care for those in need.
