Augustin "Augie" Chavez, Merced, CA—Augustin Chavez, affectionately known as Augie, passed away recently, leaving his family and community in deep sorrow. A devoted husband, father, and veteran, Augie’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and those who knew him.
Augie proudly served his country as a sharpshooter in the United States Army from November 1977 to August 1983, earning respect for his dedication and precision. His commitment continued in civilian life, where he served as a locksmith for the Merced Union High School District from 2003 to 2018, ensuring the safety of local schools. He was also known for his skills in maintenance and security services.
Outside of work, Augie had a passion for hobbies such as working with computers, CB radios, gardening, building projects, and music. His love for Elvis Presley earned him the affectionate nickname "Elvis" from his co-workers due to his iconic hairstyle and sideburns.
Augie’s passing has left his wife Lisa and their family devastated. They are still recovering from Lisa’s battle with cancer a few years ago. To help the family with funeral expenses and medical costs, a fundraiser has been organized by their neighbor Matthew Haywood, with a goal of raising $10,000.
Augie was preceded in death by his parents, Ramona and Jesus Chavez, and several of his brothers. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, his children, Alexander Chavez and Angelica Sanchez, as well as his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service with military honors will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel in Atwater, CA. Augie’s memory will continue to inspire and comfort all those who knew him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Lisa, her family, and all those mourning his loss during this difficult time.
