Anchorage, AK — The Anchorage community is mourning the loss of Auntie Olive, a beloved and kind-hearted figure who passed away on October 27, 2024, at Alaska Regional Hospital. Known affectionately as "Auntie" to her friends and family, Auntie Olive was celebrated for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for those she loved.
Auntie Olive spent her final 18 days in the ICU, where she bravely fought for her life. In her life, she was deeply involved in her church community, often seen singing with the St. Anthony Choir or helping those in need. Her compassion extended beyond her family; she was known for her desire to share and give back, such as her act of wanting to distribute extra food to the homeless after a family birthday celebration.
Auntie Olive became a mother figure to her family, stepping in as a caretaker after the passing of her niece’s mother and during challenging times, such as when her niece’s father fell ill in 2019. Her support and love left an indelible mark on her family, who she lovingly called her own children. Her kindness, cheerful spirit, and caring nature were felt by everyone who knew her, making her an adored presence at every gathering.
A fundraiser, organized by her niece Iya Nagal, is underway to honor Auntie Olive’s memory. Contributions will assist with her memorial service and ongoing expenses. The community has already begun to show its support, with generous donations from individuals including Henry Pekar, Julia Nicely, Avianna Myers, Maelea McFarland, and Irish Viloria.
Auntie Olive’s legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, and may Auntie Olive’s spirit of kindness live on through those who loved her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Auntie Olive’s family during this difficult time.
