Basim Habib Younan, Novi, MI— It is with deep sorrow that we report the passing of Basim Habib Younan, who left us on December 29th, 2024, at the age of 71. Basim was a loving father, husband, brother, and friend whose legacy of kindness and generosity touched many lives.
Basim’s life was shaped by his dedication to family. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, on February 20th, 1953, Basim was an exceptional student and a proud graduate of Baghdad University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He later emigrated to America in his twenties, where he fell in love with Zean Khidou, whom he married in 1985. Together, they built a beautiful life and family in San Diego.
Basim and his wife, Zean, were pillars of strength for their children, Patrick and Sabrina. Unfortunately, Zean passed away suddenly in October 2024, and the loss of his soulmate left Basim devastated. His health, already compromised by a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy, deteriorated rapidly, and on December 29th, he passed away, surrounded by his children.
His passing has left his children heartbroken, but they find comfort in the memories of his love, laughter, and quiet strength. Basim’s children, Patrick and Sabrina, are grateful for the outpouring of support from family and friends during this time of mourning. In lieu of flowers, they have requested donations to help cover funeral expenses and honor Basim’s memory.
Basim’s life serves as a reminder of the importance of hard work, kindness, and love for family. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Younan family during this difficult time.
