Bernadette Demuth, South Saint Paul, MN— Family and Friends Remember Beloved Matriarch

Bernadette Demuth passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Friday, September 6th, after spending months in and out of the hospital. Known fondly as "Berni" by her loved ones, she was a woman who brought joy to all who met her, remembered for her contagious smile and her ability to turn any conversation into a lasting memory. She had a knack for befriending strangers, often learning their life stories in just a few minutes of conversation, and she delighted in teaching her family Polish words she insisted they use in place of English.

Berni’s last few months were spent battling a series of health issues, including low blood pressure, a stroke, and a liver infection, which led her family to make the difficult decision to place her in hospice care. Despite these challenges, she continued to radiate love and care for those around her, staying strong and selfless until the end. Her granddaughter, Breanna Pederson, recalls her as the warmest mother and grandmother, always leaving voicemails just to hear the voices of her loved ones and offering a sense of calm and safety through her embrace.

Breanna has set up a fundraiser to help with the costs of Bernadette’s headstone, which will be placed alongside her late family in Lowry, Minnesota. As Breanna shared on social media, Bernadette and her husband were married for 57 years, a love that continues to inspire all who knew them.

The fundraiser has received immense support, with four donations totaling $200 toward the $2,000 goal. Contributions from Ellie Petersen, Heather Benda, Sara Petersen, and Craig Pederson have already helped move the family closer to their goal.
