Born in Tulare, CA, on August 6, 1947, Betty was the seventh of eight children born to Joseph Woodard Clendenen and Reaber Gladys [Turner] Clendenen. She spent her early years in Pixley, CA, before her family relocated to Turlock following the death of her father.
Betty attended local schools, graduating from Turlock High School in 1965, and pursued her passion by becoming a certified hairdresser. She worked at several salons throughout her career, including Inges Hair Salon, Tower Salon, and Marianne’s Salon. In 1969, she married Jerry Norwood, and the couple briefly lived in New Jersey before Jerry was deployed to Vietnam. Betty returned to Turlock, where they raised their family after his military service.
Throughout her life, Betty was known for her dedication to her family, her work in health product distributions, and her involvement in the crafting community, particularly her unique Christmas ornaments and music boxes. Despite a 50-year battle with health issues, Betty’s faith in Jesus Christ and her sense of humor remained strong, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Betty is survived by her children, Brandon Norwood and Joshua Norwood, along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by her siblings Paul Clendenen and Diane Winter. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.
The Legg family has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Honoring Betty Clendenen Norwood: help support her services," with a goal of raising $9,000. So far, $300 has been raised through the generous donations of Michelle Legg and anonymous contributors.
