Battle Creek, MI — Brien VanSchoick passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Brien, who spent 35 years as a high school sports official, was beloved by his family and friends. His passing has deeply impacted those close to him, but his memory will continue to inspire through the newly created Brien VanSchoick Volleyball Referee Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship, organized by his family, will support graduating seniors from Newaygo County schools in Michigan who wish to follow in Brien’s footsteps by becoming high school volleyball referees. The scholarship aims to offset costs such as training and equipment for those beginning their journey in officiating.
Brien’s influence, especially on his grandchildren, was immense. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and he was always there for his children and grandchildren whenever they needed him. His kindness and passion for life have left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Currently, a fundraiser for the scholarship has raised $500 out of a $10,000 goal, with donations from family members including Lanie Overbeek, Livi Overbeek, Leila Overbeek, and Chris and Heather Overbeek. The community is encouraged to contribute in honor of Brien’s memory and to help support the next generation of volleyball referees.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the VanSchoick family during this difficult time. Brien’s spirit and commitment will live on through the scholarship, continuing to inspire for years to come.
