Bruce Roger Ramey, Tacoma, WA—Bruce Roger Ramey passed away on July 29, 2024, in Poulsbo, WA, at the age of 71. Known for his deep commitment to public service and his community, Bruce leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by many in Tacoma and beyond.
Bruce was born on January 7, 1953, and spent much of his life dedicated to helping others. In the 1980s and 1990s, he volunteered as a fire lieutenant at Station 52 in Silverdale, WA. His passion for service extended further when he joined the Kitsap County unit of Washington Explorer Search and Rescue in 1994, where he served as Chairman of the board for a significant part of his 25-year service. Bruce was instrumental in founding Kitsap County Search Dogs, the first search group in the county to specialize in canine assistance.
Bruce’s professional life was centered in the construction industry, where he owned and operated Ramey Contracting. His dedication to his community was further exemplified by his role on the Incident Command team with the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management. His connections with people were strengthened by his involvement in these endeavors, and he formed many enduring relationships throughout his life.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Jean Ramey; his children, Kirstin (KC) Pearson and Michael Ramey; his siblings, Sandi Hanson and Doug Ramey; and his grandchildren, Megan Pearson and Eisen Ramey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Olga Ramey; his infant brother, Michael Ramey; and his loyal search dogs, Sampson and Indiana.
To celebrate Bruce’s life, a Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 8th, at the Eagle’s Nest Community Building in Bremerton, WA. The event will be a potluck open to all who wish to attend, with doors opening at 4:30 pm. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made through the GoFundMe page set up by his daughter, Kirstin Pearson, to help cover funeral expenses and the celebration service. Donations may also be directed to the Washington Explorer Search and Rescue, Kitsap County Unit, in honor of Bruce’s significant contributions to the organization.
Bruce’s dedication to his community, his warmth, and his tireless service will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
