Bryan Shaver, Killeen, TX—It is with deep sadness that the community of Killeen mourns the passing of Bryan Shaver, who passed away on August 22, 2024, after a brave struggle with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Bryan was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication.
Born in Memphis, TN, Bryan was the second oldest of five children and the only son of Dr. Glyndon and Faye Shaver. He pursued his education in Political Science at the University of Texas at Austin and built a successful career in the semiconductor and medical technology industries. In 1989, Bryan met Michele, his future wife, through their involvement in the pro-life movement, and they married in 1990. Together, they raised nine children: Nathan, Brianna, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Katherine, Aaron, Victoria, Brynne, and Ethan.
In February 2018, Bryan was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 58, prompting his early retirement from Abbott Laboratories. Seeking the support of family and friends, Bryan and Michele, along with several of their children, moved from Minnesota to Texas, eventually settling on a small homestead outside of Killeen. Despite the challenges, Michele devoted herself to caring for Bryan at home, with the help of their son Ethan.
Michele and Ethan also took on the task of organizing educational farm tours and running an Airbnb to supplement Bryan’s social security income. However, this spring, Michele suffered a broken leg, impacting their ability to maintain these activities. In response to this hardship, a fundraiser has been organized by Vinton Stanfield to support Michele and Ethan, providing financial assistance during this difficult time.
A funeral service to honor Bryan’s life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Hill Country Fellowship in Burnet, TX, followed by a luncheon. The service will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
Bryan Shaver will be remembered as a man of simplicity and gentleness, deeply devoted to Christ and his family. The community is invited to join in offering prayers, donations, and support to his family during this time of loss.
Our hearts go out to Michele, Ethan, and the entire Shaver family. May Bryan’s soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort and strength in the outpouring of love and support from the community.
