Candice Yvonne McKinney, affectionately known as “Candy,” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the age of 53, with her dear companion Cierra by her side. Though Candy bravely fought chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) for several years, her spirit remained unbroken. Despite her illness, she continued to live life to the fullest, never losing her faith in God. Her unexpected passing due to organ failure has left her family and friends in deep sorrow.
Candy was a vibrant presence, often described as the life of the party. Her infectious laughter, humor, and warm personality lit up every room she entered. She had an extraordinary ability to bring out the best in everyone she met and loved unconditionally. Even during her decade-long battle with cancer, Candy’s positive outlook touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
In accordance with Candy’s wishes, her family is planning a celebration of life instead of a traditional service. Due to the unexpected nature of her passing, the family is seeking financial assistance to cover the costs associated with her final wishes, including cremation. A fundraiser organized by Brooke Spence is currently underway, with $400 raised so far out of a $6,000 goal. Donations from the community have begun to come in, with contributions from Carrie Conway Davis, Debra Jenkins, Denise Hicks, Nina Settle, and Hope Slawson.
Candy will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and positivity will continue to inspire those she left behind.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Candy’s family and friends during this difficult time. May her memory be a source of comfort and strength.
