Carl Griffin Sr., Aurora, IL— Carl Griffin Sr. passed away on December 16, 2024, following a courageous battle with stage 3 small cell lung cancer. He was 67 years old. A devoted pastor and community leader, Carl dedicated over a decade of his life to serving others at the Wayside Rescue Mission in Aurora, IL. His work at the shelter and rehabilitation center for individuals battling drug and alcohol addiction touched the lives of many.
In addition to his passion for helping others, Carl had a deep love for music. His vocal range, which spanned from first tenor to bass, earned him recognition, and he instilled this love of music in his children and grandchildren. His musical talents, especially his first tenor voice, were renowned and appreciated by those who heard him sing.
Carl’s health took a turn in August 2024 when he was diagnosed with stage 3 small cell lung cancer. Despite his weakened condition from kidney and heart issues, Carl bravely underwent a radiation regimen, but after just four days, he was too weak to continue. He spent two months in the hospital before being transferred to a long-term rehabilitation center on December 13. Sadly, Carl passed away three days later.
His family, led by his daughter Carmen Griffin, has set up a fundraiser to assist with memorial and final expenses. The goal is to honor Carl’s legacy with a fitting homegoing celebration. Carmen shared that no donation is too small, and every contribution is appreciated as they work to provide their father with the celebration he truly deserves.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Carl’s family during this difficult time.
