Cody James Kern, Fisk, MO—Cody James Kern, aged 26, passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2024, due to cardiac arrest, leaving behind his mother, Merry, sister Makayla, grandmother Susan, and cousins Hayleigh, Kaitlyn, and their children Pacilyn, Sutton, Magnolia, Allora, and Amelia.
Cody’s life was marked by deep loss and emotional challenges. At 16, he experienced the tragic loss of his best friend Dustin, followed closely by the passing of his grandfather and Uncle David. Cody had always looked up to his Uncle David, who had instilled in him the belief that he would one day be the "Man of the House." Sadly, this responsibility came too soon as Cody found himself struggling to fill the void left behind by his loved ones.
In his early 20s, Cody began facing severe mental health challenges, including anxiety and episodes of anger. He was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia, a debilitating illness that deeply affected both him and his family. Despite his efforts, Cody was unable to maintain a job, leaving his retired grandmother to return to work to sustain their household. His condition worsened over the years, causing strain on his family, especially on his grandmother, who continued to care for him as he battled his illness.
A fundraiser has been organized by his cousin Hayleigh McKnight in hopes of raising enough funds to lay Cody to rest and help restore the home that his grandmother calls her sanctuary. The family has endured significant loss, and Hayleigh asks for support so that her grandmother can find a moment of peace—something Cody had always wanted for her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kern family during this difficult time. May Cody James Kern rest in peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in the days ahead.
