Daniel Medel, Woodlake, CA—Daniel Medel passed away on August 11, 2024, leaving his family and friends in deep mourning. Known affectionately as "el dormido," Daniel was a cherished member of his community, always managing to bring smiles to those around him.
For the past year, Daniel had been bravely battling liver cirrhosis, a condition that required frequent hospital visits. His family had high hopes that he would receive a liver transplant at UCSF in San Francisco, but unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse, and he was unable to undergo the procedure. He was transferred back to Kaweah Hospital to be closer to family, but his condition deteriorated further.
On Saturday afternoon, Daniel’s niece, Stephanie Medel, and her mother visited him, only to learn that he preferred to be alone and had refused his medication. The next day, the family received the heartbreaking news that Daniel had passed away.
In this time of sorrow, Stephanie has organized a fundraiser to cover Daniel’s funeral expenses. The goal is to raise $10,000, and so far, $50 has been donated by two supporters, Lizeth Flores and an anonymous donor. The family is reaching out for assistance to lay their beloved Daniel to rest, deeply appreciating any support provided during this challenging time.
The love and support the family has received in these difficult days have been a source of comfort, reminding them of how deeply Daniel was loved by both family and friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel Medel’s family during this painful time. May he rest in peace.
