Darnell was on his way to fish on August 2, 2024, when he suddenly suffered a heart attack. He was revived and taken to Salem Hospital, where he underwent open-heart surgery to clear a blood clot in one of his arteries. Despite surviving the night with the help of blood transfusions for low hemoglobin, Darnell went into cardiac arrest again on Saturday morning due to kidney failure. Despite being stabilized and placed on dialysis, the treatment was unsuccessful, and he passed away at 1:05 PST on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
His daughter, April Johnson, has organized a fundraiser to assist with the costs of his final farewell. Due to the unexpected nature of his passing, the family has chosen to cremate him. The fundraiser aims to raise $6,000, and at this time, no donations have been made.
