Deanna Kent, Carmel, IN— The Carmel community is mourning the loss of Deanna Kent, who passed away recently after a courageous battle with Bulbar ALS. Diagnosed a year ago, Deanna’s illness progressed rapidly, and she succumbed to complications with her loving husband, Ron, by her side. Deanna’s death on July 29, 2024, has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew her.
Deanna’s life was characterized by her boundless energy, joy, and compassion. She worked at Eli Lilly and Company for 33 years, starting in Detroit and later moving to Indianapolis. After her retirement in 2017, Deanna continued to contribute to her community through various roles, including retail, Chanel consulting, landscaping, and catering. She was also an avid volunteer, dedicating her time to food pantries, Maker Playground 5th Grade Woodshop, The Center for the Performing Arts, and vaccination centers. Her commitment was recognized when she was named Volunteer of the Month by the city of Fishers, Indiana.
Deanna’s passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and support on social media. Denby Joe Baker expressed, "The ALS community lost a GREAT & PHENOMENAL person wayyy too soon. Deanna Kent gained her wings this week. I’m still shocked. To say she was incredible is an understatement." Randy Finn also offered his condolences, saying, "Condolences with prayers."
A fundraiser has been organized by Friends of Deanna to help Ron cover medical, home mobility rehabilitation, and other expenses during this difficult time. The fundraiser, created on July 31, 2024, has raised $7,475 of its $10,000 goal from 60 donations. Among the contributors are Denby Baker with a $50 donation, Grady Grant III with a $1,000 donation, and Mary Hoover, who made the first donation of $50.
Deanna’s legacy of love, care, and community involvement will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Plans for a memorial service this fall will be shared, with options for virtual attendance for those who cannot be present in person.
