Deborah Hall, Brooklyn, NY—Deborah Hall passed away on Friday, September 27th, leaving her family and loved ones devastated. Known for her resilience and strength, Deborah had been courageously battling stage IV uterine cancer for nearly a year. Her daughter, Kam, had been by her side every step of the way, working tirelessly to care for her mother while also raising four nephews and managing two jobs.
Deborah’s health challenges began in July 2023, with frequent visits to the emergency room, initially misdiagnosed as severe constipation. In November 2023, Kam and her mother received the heartbreaking news that Deborah had stage IV gynecological cancer that had already spread to her lymph nodes. Despite aggressive chemotherapy treatments and multiple hospital stays, Deborah’s health continued to decline, and in August 2024, she was told she could no longer continue treatment due to her deteriorating condition.
Kam, committed to keeping her mother comfortable at home, transformed their living room into a hospice space. On September 20th, Deborah responded to Kam’s loving words with “I love you,” which would tragically be the last time Kam heard her mother’s voice. A week later, Kam returned home to witness Deborah’s final moments as she passed away peacefully.
In this difficult time, Kam faces significant financial challenges due to the lapse of her mother’s life insurance and the overwhelming costs of funeral expenses. A fundraiser organized by Elizabeth Bermudez aims to ease Kam’s burden by covering the costs of transporting Deborah to the South for a service, as well as hosting a repass in Brooklyn. The community is rallying together to support Kam, a woman known for her kindness and strength, as she navigates this heartbreaking loss.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Kam and her family, and our prayers are with them during this time of sorrow.
