Born on July 19, 1949, Deborah was a trailblazer, becoming the first female CEO of B.F. Saul in her mid-20s, a significant achievement for the time. Throughout her life, she was known as a fun-loving and free-spirited individual, deeply dedicated to her career, but her greatest pride and joy was her daughter, Lauren.
Despite facing personal heartbreak, including five miscarriages and the loss of her husband, Deborah continued to be a source of love and strength for her daughter. In 1997, after retiring, Deborah and Lauren made Oak Ridge, NC, their home, where they built beautiful memories together, particularly on their horse farm. Deborah was lovingly known as "Mama Saxton" by Lauren’s friends, and her presence in their lives was a cherished one.
In her final days, Deborah’s health deteriorated rapidly after being diagnosed with COPD, emphysema, and asthma. She was rushed to the hospital on August 26 due to acute respiratory failure, and later it was discovered that cancer had metastasized throughout her body. Less than a week later, Deborah passed away alone in her hospital bed, a heartbreaking end to a life filled with love and resilience.
Lauren has expressed deep sorrow over her mother’s passing and the family’s lack of support during Deborah’s final moments. A fundraiser has been set up to help with memorial expenses, but as of now, no contributions have been made.
