Dennis McClure, Bennington, NH—Dennis McClure, 67, of Bennington, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, after a long battle with heart disease. A dedicated member of the community, Dennis was known for his love of hunting, fishing, and, most notably, his passion for recreational softball.
Dennis played an integral role in founding the Bennington Men’s Softball League, where he not only played alongside his son, Tyler, but also worked tirelessly to keep the spirit of the game alive in the town. His dedication extended beyond just playing, as Dennis spent countless hours volunteering with friends and family to restore the ball field at Sawyer Memorial Park, where he had once played.
One of Dennis’s most cherished dreams was to build an outfield fence at Sawyer Memorial Park. He tirelessly advocated for the project, attending town meetings and rallying support from the community and local officials. Sadly, Dennis passed away before seeing his vision come to fruition.
In honor of Dennis’s memory, his family is dedicated to bringing his dream to life. A fundraiser, organized by his daughter-in-law Karen Mitchell, has been launched to fund the Veterans Memorial Fence at Sawyer Memorial Park. The funds raised will go directly to the Bennington Recreation Department, helping to fulfill Dennis’s long-held wish.
During this time, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to support the construction of the fence Dennis worked so hard to make a reality.
