Don Welsh, Laveen—It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Don Welsh, who left us on July 4, 2024. Don was a beloved member of the Laveen community, widely recognized for his unwavering commitment to the Cactus Cities Softball League (CCSL) and his profound love for his feline companions.
Don founded the CCSL 30 years ago and played an instrumental role in its development and growth. He wasn’t just a player or coach; he was a friend, mentor, and fan who infused every game with his passion and dedication. The league was more than just an organization to Don; it was a testament to his love for the sport and his desire to build a strong, united community.
Outside of the softball field, Don was known as a devoted "cat dad." His home was a sanctuary for his beloved feline friends, where they were showered with love and care. His bond with his cats was a significant part of his life, and it was something that brought him immense joy and comfort.
In honor of Don’s memory, and in keeping with his final wishes, a fundraiser has been organized by CCSL, Incorporated. The goal is to support the CCSL and a local cat shelter, two causes that were incredibly close to Don’s heart. Although the fundraiser has just begun, with a modest start of $5, it is hoped that the community will rally to continue Don’s legacy of generosity and care.
The Laveen community, along with Don’s friends and loved ones, is encouraged to contribute to this cause and ensure that Don’s spirit lives on through the league he cherished and the cats he adored.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Don Welsh’s family and friends during this difficult time. May his memory continue to inspire kindness and community spirit.
