Douglas Barrick— The Carlisle community is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Douglas Barrick, who fought a courageous battle against Stage IV kidney cancer for over seven years. His loss has left a profound impact on his family, friends, and community members.
Doug, a devoted father, husband, brother, and a U.S. Army Heavy Anti-Armor Infantryman, passed away at Hampden Medical Center on September 10th, a day that also marked his son’s 5th birthday. Doug’s fight against cancer was a testament to his unwavering strength and perseverance, qualities he embodied throughout his life. After being diagnosed in 2017, Doug underwent numerous treatments and procedures in his fight against the disease, including surgeries, radiation, and oral medications. His battle culminated in a series of 25 radiation rounds at John Hopkins Medical Center, but despite his incredible determination, his body could no longer endure the treatment.
The financial burden of Doug’s prolonged medical care, in addition to the family’s current funeral expenses, has been overwhelming. To support Doug’s wife, Brandi Barrick, and their son, Cooper, a fundraiser was organized by Shanon Myers. As of now, $725 has been raised out of a $5,000 goal, with donations pouring in from friends and community members. Supporters like Kimberly Artley and Maureen Miller have generously contributed, offering much-needed assistance during this difficult time.
The community has come together to share heartfelt messages of support and condolences. G. Douglas Dreisbach expressed his sympathy through a moving Facebook post, while Leisje Coyle Rietze lamented the devastating loss, stating, “Tragic times in our community.
