Ella Mary Guest, Kasigluk, AK— The community mourns the passing of Ella Mary Guest, affectionately known as Yuiya, who left us on August 27. Ella was deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her. Born in Bethel on July 10, 1985, to Moses and Emma Guest, she was raised in Quinhagak, where she found love and built her life.
Ella’s life was a testament to her kindness, faith, and love for her family. She embraced life with a vibrant personality and an open heart, always wearing her emotions on her sleeve. Her passion for subsistence gathering, love for gospel music, and dedication to her faith were central to who she was.
Tragically, Ella lost her partner, David Jones, on her birthday in 2006, soon after the birth of their daughter Mandy. Despite this heartache, she continued to be a devoted mother, sister, and friend, spreading love wherever she went. In recent years, Ella moved to Anchorage, where she spent the last six years of her life, staying connected with her loved ones.
A fundraiser has been organized by Yvonne Jackson on behalf of Emma Guest to help cover the costs of Ella’s funeral, including airfare for family members to attend her final farewell. So far, $130 of the $1,500 goal has been raised, thanks to the generous contributions of David Cowart, Abie Tinker, and an anonymous donor.
Ella’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. The community’s support and prayers are deeply appreciated as her family navigates this difficult time.
