Enrique Ismael Mairena, Costa Rica— On November 23, 2024, the community tragically said goodbye to Enrique Ismael Mairena, affectionately known as Ricky. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Enrique passed away after a courageous battle with health complications. His untimely passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Enrique was born in Costa Rica on December 6, 1956, and lived his life embodying the values of kindness, love, and generosity. He is remembered for his selflessness and the warmth he brought to everyone around him. His family was his greatest joy, and he leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Judith, along with five children—Alex, Andrea, Marcus, Jessica, and Christian—and eight grandchildren: Jacob, Preston, Zachary, Chloe, Sebastian, Austin, Mateo, and Isla.
His sudden passing was the result of a severe reaction to chemotherapy treatment, a complication that could have been prevented with a simple genetic test. Enrique’s family is now raising awareness to prevent other families from experiencing a similar tragedy. Despite facing unimaginable pain during his final days, Enrique fought with remarkable strength, driven by the hope of returning to his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, who were his source of great joy.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Giselle Badana to support the Mairena family during this difficult time. Donations are being collected to help with funeral expenses and to honor Enrique’s legacy.
Our hearts go out to the Mairena family in this time of grief. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers.
