Erin Moreno, Valley Center, KS—The Valley Center community is reeling from the tragic loss of Erin Moreno and her son Anthony Barrera, who both perished in a devastating accident. Erin was a beloved educator in the Valley Center ISD, known for her dedication to her students at West Elementary School. She was also pursuing her PhD in education. Her son Anthony, an incoming senior at Valley Center High, aspired to become a doctor.
Erin’s sudden passing has left her family in profound grief. She is survived by her husband, Guerrero Moreno Jr. (Junior), and her sons Andrew Gregory, Nico Moreno, and Noah Moreno. Anthony also leaves behind his father, Raul Barrera. The loss of both Erin and Anthony has been a tremendous blow to the family and the community.
A fundraiser has been organized by Matthew Daniel to support the Moreno family during this difficult time. The funds will help cover medical expenses for those involved in the accident, funeral costs, and expenses to help the family stabilize and adjust to life without Erin and Anthony. So far, $700 has been raised out of a $50,000 goal through the kind donations of Lisa Blasi ($100), Elizabeth Rowland ($500), and Abra Frisch ($100).
The community has shown an outpouring of support on social media. Melissa Grier Fehrenbach shared a heartfelt message, highlighting the Moreno family’s need for assistance.
The love and compassion Erin brought to her students and community will not be forgotten. Her legacy as an educator and a devoted mother will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Erin Moreno and Anthony Barrera’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family during this incredibly challenging time.
