Erin Sheehan, Elk Point, SD—Yesterday, the community of Elk Point lost a beacon of strength and resilience as Erin Sheehan passed away. Erin was a devoted mother, wife, and friend who endured countless hardships with an indomitable spirit.
Erin’s journey began twelve years ago with the birth of her son, after which she faced severe health challenges, her heart functioning at only 6%. She was placed on an LVAD machine until she received a heart transplant. Despite being on a stringent regimen of medications and undergoing dialysis, Erin continued to fight numerous health battles, including multiple bouts with COVID-19, pneumonia, strep throat, and COPD. Her determination was nothing short of remarkable.
Tragically, Erin experienced profound personal losses over the years. Four years ago, she lost her mother, followed by the death of the father of her children just four months later. Less than a year ago, Erin endured the heartbreaking loss of her son. Despite these immense personal tragedies, she remained steadfast in her resolve to live for her remaining children, Gabe (16) and Elizabeth (13), her husband Matt, and her extended family.
In her final months, Erin lived with intense daily pain but continued to push forward, driven by her love for her family and friends. Her legacy as a fighter is a testament to her courage and determination, a legacy that her loved ones now strive to honor and keep alive.
