Ethelene "Ethel" White Hawk, a cherished member of the Brockton community in Montana, passed away after a long battle with cancer. Ethel, who was deeply connected to Brockton School as a cook for many years, had fed countless students, visitors, and community members throughout her time there. Her dedication to the school and the people she served made her a beloved figure in Brockton, and her passing has left a profound impact.
Ethel was initially declared a "Survivor of Cancer" on July 11, 2024, after completing her treatments and celebrating by ringing the bell. Unfortunately, in the past few months, it was discovered that her cancer had returned, and this time it could not be treated. Ethel was open about her diagnosis, and on Sunday, September 22, the community gathered to honor and celebrate her life.
Despite her long-standing role in the Brockton community and residing on the Fort Peck Reservation, Ethel was not an enrolled member, which has left her family anticipating significant funeral costs. To help alleviate this financial burden, Olivia Johnson and Terry RattlingThunder, Sr., alongside other community members, have organized a fundraiser to assist with the expenses of Ethel’s celebration of life.
Although the fundraiser has just begun, the organizers hope to gather the necessary funds so Ethel’s family can focus on spending their remaining time with her and not worry about financial stress.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ethel White Hawk’s family, friends, and the entire Brockton community as they navigate this difficult time.
