Fernand Mare, affectionately known as "Fred," passed away on Sunday, September 8th, 2024. A well-known figure in the Cedarhurst, NY community, Fernand leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication as a father, husband, and an avid sports enthusiast.
Fred Mare’s life was full of challenges, yet also filled with cherished moments. Nearly two decades ago, he faced a life-threatening condition that required a quintuple bypass surgery. His heart, functioning at only 8% capacity, was saved by this procedure, granting him years he might not otherwise have had. During this time, he witnessed his son’s milestones, from competing at the Head of the Charles to getting married, creating lasting memories that his family will forever hold dear.
For those who knew him, Fred’s passion for the Giants and Yankees was well-known, as was his commitment to the community. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts, the Mom & Pops Club of Lawrence High School, and served as a soccer coach for the Hewlett-Lawrence Soccer Club. His impact on those around him was profound, and his absence will be deeply felt by friends, family, and neighbors alike.
A fundraiser has been organized by Fred’s son, Chretien Mare, to help cover funeral expenses. The community has already started to show its support, with donations totaling $610 so far, coming from seven generous donors, including contributions from Lisa Amatulli Blanz, Megan Ohr, and Lauren McKenna. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this incredibly difficult time.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mare family and wish them strength in the days ahead. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
