George J. Lopez, Tucson, AZ—The Tucson community is deeply saddened by the passing of George J. Lopez, who was called to Our Lord on Friday, August 23, 2024. George was a beloved figure known for his service in the US Army during the 1950s and his 50 years of active involvement in the American Legion Cocio-Estrada Post 59.
Affectionately known as "Tata George" to his 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, George left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew him. His warm personality, love for sharing stories, and ability to reminisce about the past endeared him to many. He is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda Lopez, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. The community’s thoughts are especially with Yolanda during this challenging time.
To support the family during this difficult period, a fundraiser has been organized by JJ Lopez to help cover funeral costs and other related expenses. So far, $1,035 has been raised out of a $3,000 goal, with contributions from 19 donors. Dominique Magallanes made a recent donation of $50, Celia Neidkowski provided the top donation of $100, and the first donation of $25 was made by an anonymous donor.
George’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His family, friends, and the entire Tucson community will cherish the time they spent with him and find solace in the legacy he left behind.
We are deeply saddened to learn of George J. Lopez’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Yolanda Lopez and the entire family during this difficult time.
