George Midgley, a beloved figure in the Red Oak community, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, mentorship, and love that has touched many lives. Known for his role as a coach and later as a dear uncle, George was a pillar of support for those around him. His passing has deeply affected his family, friends, and the broader community.
Ross Hash, one of George’s former players and later a family member, shared his heartfelt memories on Facebook, saying, "The last few days have been hard, but I love reading about George Midgley. I was a senior during his first year coaching, and I loved playing for him. After school, I got to call him a friend, and later, Uncle George when I married his niece. Over the last 11 years, he has been a great uncle to my kids, always giving them a hard time and supporting them. I’m very thankful for Uncle George; he touched many people’s lives. Seeing the hallway lined up with everyone that loved him at the hospital just made me smile and cry."
George’s impact extended beyond the playing field; he was known for his ability to bring joy and warmth to any room. Ross’s post continued, "I think everyone could sit and tell a funny story about George; he was a blast to be around. I bet he’s up there in heaven with his sister right now, telling her about all of her grandkids and how great they are. I also bet he’s trying to find a good deer hunting spot or a fishing hole somewhere, but I bet he’s doing what he loves up there—I bet he’s coaching some kids. I’m going to miss Uncle George. It was an honor to have played for you and also be a part of your family. R.I.P Coach/Uncle George."
A fundraiser organized by Trina Renfrow is currently underway to support George’s wife, Paula Midgley, with the expenses related to his passing. The goal is to raise $20,000, and so far, $370 has been raised through the generosity of eight donors. Trina shared, "We are reaching out with a heartfelt request for your support. Together, we can help Paula celebrate the life of George and honor him accordingly, as he was so special to so many of us."
We extend our deepest condolences to the Midgley family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
