Gloria Smallwood, Mount Vernon, KY— Gloria Smallwood passed away this past midnight, leaving her family devastated. Gloria, a sister, aunt, Nana, and dog mom, was a bright light in the lives of those who knew her. She was a source of love and support, always striving to keep her family united with her creativity, compassion, and generosity.
Gloria had faced many health challenges throughout her life, including being an insulin-dependent diabetic, having a heart attack, suffering from lifelong depression, and ultimately being diagnosed with kidney failure. Despite these struggles, she continued to care for her family, including her mother, during times of sickness, always trying to maintain a positive outlook.
Sadly, Gloria’s passing came after a critical moment when she skipped dialysis, unknowingly leading to fatal complications. After being rushed to the hospital, she went into cardiac arrest and was clinically dead for six minutes. Although efforts were made to revive her, she suffered severe brain damage and could no longer live independently. After discussing her condition with doctors, her family made the heartbreaking decision to allow her to pass peacefully.
With Christmas approaching, the family is grappling with grief and loss, as Gloria had already prepared some gifts for the holiday season. They are now seeking assistance to cover funeral expenses, a tombstone, and outstanding debts. A fundraiser has been established by Krystal Nicholas to help with these costs.
The family is deeply touched by the kindness of those who have already donated and shared their support during this incredibly difficult time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Gloria’s family as they navigate this painful loss. May her memory be a blessing to all who loved her.
