Jaileen Santo Santiago, originally from Puerto Rico, passed away on September 1, 2024, leaving her family heartbroken. She had been receiving an iron infusion on August 22, 2024, when she experienced a severe reaction, causing numbness in her legs. Emergency services were called, and Jaileen was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital BayCare Health System in Tampa, Florida.
During transport to the hospital, her heart stopped for three minutes before being revived by paramedics. Once at the hospital, her parents in Puerto Rico were contacted via video call to give consent for urgent medical treatment due to the critical nature of her condition. Doctors quickly administered medication to address a blood clot in her brain, but Jaileen soon fell into a coma. On August 23, 2024, she was declared brain dead.
Her mother, Marilyn Santiago, has started a fundraiser to raise $15,000 to cover the expenses of transferring Jaileen’s body back to Puerto Rico for her final resting place. Marilyn is seeking support to ensure her daughter’s journey home can be completed, but as of today, there have been no donations yet.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jaileen Santo Santiago’s family during this incredibly difficult time. May they find comfort and strength as they prepare to honor her memory.
