Jake Hannah, Oregon— Jake Hannah passed away tragically on December 1, 2024, after a commercial fishing vessel he was aboard sank outside Juneau, Alaska, due to severe weather. The loss has left his family, friends, and the community in profound grief.

Jake, who had traveled to Alaska to pursue his dream of becoming a commercial fisherman, was on the F/V Wind Walker when the vessel went down. He had found his passion in Alaska, working towards becoming a Captain of his own fishing boat, a dream that was within reach. Despite facing personal struggles, including battling addiction, Jake’s determination and love for the sea defined his path.

Known for his loyalty and kindness, Jake was a devoted father to Averee, a beloved son to Carol, and a cherished friend to many. His tragic passing has created an outpouring of support, with donations pouring in to assist his family with the recovery efforts. A fundraiser, organized by Elena Martinez-Yates, has raised $300 so far, with the goal of sending a team to the last known location of the boat to attempt recovery of the vessel and, if possible, bring Jake’s remains back to Oregon.

Tiffany Yates, a close friend, shared her heartfelt thoughts on Facebook, expressing, "I watched this boy grow up. We considered him a son. He has been Ben’s best friend for 10 years. We would love to help his mom get him home. Anything helps."
