James Anthony "Jay" Hayes IV, Londonderry, NH— Jay Hayes, a beloved young man, tragically passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024. His unexpected death has left the Londonderry and RPI communities, along with his family and friends, in profound sorrow.
Jay was a cherished member of the Londonderry community. He was known for his infectious smile and vibrant personality. A 2020 graduate of Londonderry High School, he was a standout athlete, serving as the Captain of the 2020 Men’s Tennis Team and a member of the 2019 NH Division 1 State Champion Football Team. His passion for tennis began early at the Londonderry town tennis courts, specifically on Court 3, where he was often referred to as “Jay ‘the backboard Hayes’” by his high school coach due to his remarkable agility and ability to return nearly every ball.
At the time of his passing, Jay was a senior at RPI, studying Biomedical Engineering and pursuing a Life Sciences Entrepreneurship MBA. He had already made a significant impact through his academic achievements, including being named to the Dean’s List and his involvement in groundbreaking research. His fraternity brothers in Pi Lambda Phi and his friends at RPI fondly referred to him simply as "Jay."
Jay’s dedication to helping others was evident in his community work, notably as a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics and in his role as a client liaison manager for the Center for Disability Services. He was loved by all who knew him for his kind heart and willingness to make a difference.
In honor of his lasting impact on the community, a memorial fundraiser has been organized to build a tribute at the Londonderry tennis courts where Jay spent much of his youth. The memorial will include a personalized bench overlooking “Jay’s court” (Court 3), and a backboard will be placed at the rear of the court, with plaques to celebrate Jay’s legacy.
Jay’s family and friends will forever treasure the memories they shared with him. He will be remembered for his warmth, brilliance, and the immense joy he brought to those around him.
We offer our deepest condolences to Jay’s family and friends. May you find comfort in the wonderful memories you created together.
